More consumers than ever before are considering sustainability when they purchase from any manufacturer or supplier. They want to know that the products come from sustainable sources and that they aren’t negatively impacting the environment.

More consumers than ever before are considering sustainability when they purchase from any manufacturer or supplier. You may then learn about some of the most well-known ways the CBD industry is doing its part.

Growing High-Quality Organic Hemp

Whenever you purchase any new CBD product for the first time, it’s always recommended that you find out where the manufacturer sources their hemp. That way, you can learn more about the possible contaminant risks and whether or not they prioritize environmentally important practices like organic farming.

Companies like Joy Organics that build a brand around sustainable practice will happily advertise where they source their hemp before the CBD is extracted to make products like gummies and tinctures.

The more businesses that choose to grow organic hemp, the more the environment may benefit. Organic farming reduces the soil’s exposure to harmful chemicals, reduces pollution caused by nitrogen run-off, and even reduces how much energy is used. According to some reports, organic crops and dairying operations use less energy than those that aren’t organic.

Companies Are Using Recyclable Materials

While our mega-corporations and companies are still creating millions of products with single-use plastic, the CBD industry is generally taking a more sustainable approach. Many leading CBD product manufacturers purchase packaging that you can recycle or packaging materials that were already recycled to begin with.

FDA rules and regulations may limit the materials they use due to the need for child safety, but you can generally find information relating to how and where you can recycle the packaging once you’ve finished with it. We are on an upward trajectory with recycling, and the CBD industry may be making a positive contribution with its sustainable packaging.

Regenerative Agricultural Practices Are Being Followed

The benefits of regenerative farming have been known for some time. A body of research shows that the soil can be healthier, there may be more biodiversity, and areas may experience reduced water pollution and increased carbon sequestration.

Hemp farmers, many of whom are already doing their best to grow organic hemp and make other changes to support the environment, may help the environment by following regenerative agricultural practices.

These include planting another crop after hemp has been harvested to ensure the land isn’t left open and dormant and doing strip-tilling to remove the top layer of the cover crop. This allows the hemp farmer to plant their next crop in the rotation directly where the cover crop was planted.

Other regenerative agricultural practices include composting to rebuild depleted soils, integrating livestock into agricultural crops, and reduced or no-till farming practices. These can be crucial to ensuring that we maintain the soil we have. Current topsoil degradation rates could mean that we deplete our topsoil supply in as little as 60 years.

The CBD industry has been under considerable scrutiny, but that doesn’t mean it’s not doing a lot of good. Sustainability is to the fore with regenerative agricultural practices, recyclable packaging, organic hemp growth, and more.
